More About Chiweenie Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Dachshund / Terrier / Mixed. Welcome Rusty. He is a 2.5-year-old Dachshund/Terrier mix. He is a cute brown dog. He has the adorable nose and matching eyelids. Thus, his name was perfect. He weighs about 15 pounds full grown. He likes to tunnel and sleep with his foster dad. He is good with other dogs both male and female. He is a little reserved with new people but very loyal and devoted to his human. He is good on a leash and knows sit. Sometimes he will conveniently not hear the command (we call that selective hearing—typical of the dachshund breed ) He does his business outside and is fully vetted and ready for his forever home. He is currently in Texas and is looking for his forever home in Texas or we can transport him to the West Coast. His adoption fee is 170 and transport is 185. Posted Breed: Dachshund / Manchester Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Welcome Dixie. She is a 2-year-old Dachshund/Manchester Terrier mix. She is shy and sweet. She has been handled rough by her previous owner and so she warms up slowly but bonds deeply. She is good in a car, good on a leash, likes to be held, good with other dogs and sweet. She would do best in a home where she can get lots of attention and a quieter home would be best. She is learning potty manners and will go on a piddle pad. She is a small girl at about 7 pounds. She is a great size for an apartment or a small yard. She is also not very vocal. She is currently in a rural facility in Pipe Creek, Texas. She is looking for her forever home on the East or the West Coast. We will use a transporter to help her get to her forever home. Posted Breed: Terrier / Corgi / Mixed (short coat). Welcome Lee. He is a 12-pound Terrier. He is 3.5 years old, up on shots and healthy. He is outgoing and independent. He enjoys checking things out and my guess is he will chase the squirrels out of your yard. He isn’t clingy and will make a great companion for walks. He is sturdy enough to go a pretty good distance and he is friendly with other dogs. He is good in a crate and likes car rides. He has the adorable curly tail and while he tugs a little on the leash he is decent once he has checked things out. He sheds some but not huge amounts. He is currently in Pipe Creek Texas in a rural facility. We don’t have a lot of foot traffic so we will be advertising him and using a transporter to deliver him to the East or the West Coast. If you are looking for a sweet, outgoing, not too clingy boy to be your companion this is your guy. He would love a yard to explore but it won’t need to be huge. His adoption fee is 170 and transport is 185. Contact Marlene at 210-867-1769 or email to maudreyh@aol.com for an application. See his cute video too

Posted Breed: Brussels Griffon / Mixed (medium coat). We have a bonded Pair here. This is Ebony (Black one) and Chris (tan one). They are both 4 years old and are a Brussels Griffon mixed dogs. They are about 25 pounds each. They tried to adopt them out separately and they mourned each other so we plan to keep them together. We can work out a slightly reduced adoption fee to take both. They will be easy to handle. They are lower shedding dogs. They keep each other company and are very comfortable together. They like to be kenneled together and sleep fine in one larger bed. Ebony likes water but Chris is happy to watch. Both are healthy, up on their shots and ready to find their forever home together. They can be adopted locally in Texas to a great home or we can use a transporter to deliver them to the East or the West Coast. Adoption fee is 170 each and 185 for transport for each. I will work to get both fees reduced or ask for a chip in to make it possible to get both together in the same home. Contact Marlene at 210-867-1769 or email to maudreyh@aol.com for an application.
